Born in Guimarães, Pedro Emanuel Pereira is one of the most prominent Portuguese pianists and composers of his generation.

In composition, the highlights include the commission of a concerto for clarinet and orchestra that will be premiered at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in the USA, conducted by Cristian Maçelaru and Carlos Ferreira on clarinet; the writing of a Requiem in memory of Francisco Sá Carneiro; and the première of the work “Passarola”, for piano, electronics and sacred geometry, which was attended by the King of Spain, the President of the Portuguese Republic and the President of the Italian Republic.

As a soloist, his recitals in Barcelona, New York and Amsterdam stand out, as do his concerts with the Yerevan Opera Orchestra, the Casa da Música do Porto Orchestra and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra.

Together with clarinetist Carlos Ferreira, a 2024 Rising Star artist, Pedro Emanuel Pereira will be touring the main European venues, namely the Barbican Centre in London; Paris Philharmonie; Elbphilharmonie and Laiszhalle in Hamburg; Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona; Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam; Musikverein in Vienna; among others.

As part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Portuguese revolution of 25 April 1974, Pedro Emanuel Pereira has created a project that will be taken to ten prisons in Portugal. “50’25 – Through the Prisons of Portugal” will consist of the creation and performance of 10 original works, inspired by poetic texts that will be written by the inmates of each prison. Pedro Emanuel Pereira’s discography includes three albums. “Russian Journey” – with works for solo piano by Prokofiev and Rachmaninov; ” Sounds of My Homeland” – dedicated exclusively to original works by himself for solo piano; and “XX-XXI”, recorded together with clarinetist Carlos Ferreira.

In 2024, the artist will release his next album for solo piano, which will feature music by Bach, Hindemith, Almeida, and works of his own.

His academic career includes a degree from the Moscow P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory, in the class of pianist Vera Gornostaeva, and postgraduate studies at the Amsterdam Conservatory in the class of pianist Naum Grubert, where he finished with the highest marks and Cum Laude honours. In Portugal, he completed his studies in the class of pianist Marian Pivka at the Guimarães Conservatory.
He studied orchestration and instrumentation with Mikhail Bogdanov and Artun Hoinic, and received scholarships from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Jacques Vonk Foundation during his studies.

Pedro Emanuel Pereira has taken part in several international piano and composition competitions. A laureate in more than 20 international competitions, he won first prize at the Santa Cecília International Competition in Porto, the Richard Vines International Competition in Lleida and the San Sebastian International Competition, among others.

In addition to his work as a concert pianist and composer, Pedro Emanuel Pereira carries out academic research at the University of Aveiro, in the doctoral programme in Artistic Creation, and is also dedicated to music production, being one of the founding members of the Percos Music production company.
